We are currently setting up our Training site in Malahang, near Lae. This solar power station is a blueprint of what we plan to roll out in remote rural offgrid communities hosting institutions of the Lutheran Church such as schools, hospitals, health centers, seminaries and facilities for adult education.
The site is located at ELCPNG’s Development Services campus and shall be used to train the local installation & maintenance teams on all skills needed to build and operate a village-level solar power station. The SolSol training courses include solar technology basics, site planning and dimensioning, energy need assessments, panel arrays, rigs & roof rails, mechanical tools, craftmanship for PV, inverters, battery storage, electrical security, cable dimensioning, AS-3000 specs, power distribution throughout the campus, energy metering, quota allocation, system trouble-shooting, regular quality assurance inspections and user administration.
At times when no training courses take place, the site will be used to supply the office, workshops and residential houses with reliable clean solar power without the daily blackouts.
Additionally, common community assets for productive use such as washing machines, sewing machines and a chest deep-freezer simplify the lives of the families, improve food security and open up new opportunities for economical activities for women.
Let the Sun shine!
